Twist Damascus Class - Nov 9+10, 2024
November 9+10, 2024
Intermediate Level - This class requires some previous forging experience.
This class will be lead by Isaiah Schroeder
In this 2 person, 2 day class we will work together to make a Japanese style wa handled knife from damascus steel that we will forge!
Using power hammer and hydraulic press we will forge out a billet of low layer twist damascus and use that to forge a knife blade which we will then heat treat, grind, hand polish, and etch to reveal the beautiful pattern that was created. After completing the blade we will proceed to make a 2pc wa style handle with copper spacer and mount it to the blade to finish the knife.
The goal is for each student to leave with a finished knife to take home, and the skills to do it again!
Class fee is non-refundable after 30 days from class start.
Students must be at least 16 years old.
Each day class starts at 9am and usually goes until around 5pm with 1 hr. lunch break. The class may go longer if needed or end early if everybody is done.
I will provide all the materials necessary for the knife, 80CrV2 & 15N20 carbon steel for the blade and I have a selection of woods for you to choose from for the handle.
